The adventures are well underway for our Year 6 pupils on their PGL trip to the Isle of Wight! They’ve been keeping incredibly busy, taking on the sensory trail, soaring through the air on the zip line, and challenging themselves to try new activities. From orienteering and fencing to climbing and ziplining, they’ve been stepping outside their comfort zones, facing their fears, and showing fantastic determination, teamwork and resilience. 🏎️ Year 8 Formula 1 Challenge! 🏁 Our talented Year 8 students have amazed us with their creativity, innovation, and teamwork as they designed and built their own 3D Formula 1 cars and developed a business proposal. Students explored key business principles, including engineering design, unique selling points (USPs), branding, and sustainability, before presenting their ideas. The standard of work was outstanding, with some truly fantastic car designs and incredibly professional presentations. Armed Forces Day at Crawley Memorial On Saturday 27th June, we were honoured to take part in the Armed Forces Day celebrations at Crawley Memorial. This year’s event held particular significance for The Gatwick School because of the special relationship we have developed with the local Crawley & Horsham Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club. We were especially proud that our students – Maisie, Sumanohara, Olamide, Anthony, Oakley, Cherno, Chloe, Christiana, Brooke, and Oliver, who had the opportunity to represent The Gatwick School at this important community event. They were outstanding ambassadors for our school, demonstrating respect, pride, and professionalism throughout the morning. The parade began at 10:00am, led by the marching band, with representatives from each branch of the Armed Forces taking part. Our students proudly marched towards the rear of the parade, alongside veterans in civilian dress, accompanied by our teacher, Mr Callaghan, and school volunteer, Mr Prior. The procession started at the bandstand, completed a lap of the memorial grounds, and returned to the bandstand for the flag-raising ceremony. Everyone stood together in respectful silence as the flag was raised, followed by a number of speeches recognising the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces. The event concluded with the parade being formally dismissed. We are incredibly proud of our students for representing our school with such respect, dignity, and pride. Today, our Primary Phase celebrated Pride with the theme “Embracing Everyone”, encouraging children to reflect on and celebrate their own identities. Pupils came to school dressed in cultural clothing or bright colours to proudly express who they are, and we enjoyed ice lollies together in the sunshine! 🌈☀️ The children had a fantastic day, filled with fun, learning and celebration. We are especially proud of Molly in Year 4, who bravely shared a personal story about their identity. 🎉 Congratulations, Year 11! 🎉 Our amazing Year 11 students have officially completed their GCSEs after months of dedication, resilience, and hard work. The Year 11 students kicked off the end-of-year celebrations with the final of our much-loved Staff vs Students Football Match on Friday, filled with friendly competition and memorable moments. Today we held our Leavers’ Celebration Assembly, where we reflected on their journey, recognised their achievements, and celebrated the incredible young people they have become. It was also a particularly meaningful occasion as we honoured our Legacy Students – the first cohort to begin their education with us in Reception and progress all the way through to Year 11. The celebrations concluded with shirt signing to mark the occasion. We are immensely proud of everything this year group has achieved and the positive impact they have had on our school community. We wish them every success and happiness as they take their next steps and look forward to seeing all they accomplish in the future. Following an exciting week of campaigning, today our students took part in the voting process at the TGS Polling Station to elect their new House Captains for Charitable Impact, Global Change, Sports & Performance, and The Arts. It was wonderful to see such strong engagement in the democratic process and a shared commitment to making a positive difference within our school community. Year 6 put their mathematical thinking to the test during a fun and engaging Maths Investigation! 🔍🦶🏻🧚🏻‍♀️ When the children arrived, they discovered a giant footprint and a fairy footprint mysteriously left in the classroom. Using only this evidence, they were challenged to work out how tall each of the mystery visitors might be! After sharing ideas and discussing different approaches, the children used the ratio of their own height to foot length to calculate a whole-class average and estimate the height of the giant and the fairy. Year 6 took their science learning to the next level with a hands-on investigation into the structure of the heart! 🫀 As part of their learning, pupils dissected a lamb’s heart to identify its key features, including the left and right atria, left and right ventricles, and the septum. They then used their observations to trace the journey of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood through the heart, bringing their classroom learning to life through real-world scientific enquiry.
