As the Head of Religious Education at TGS, I ensure that our students receive a comprehensive RE curriculum that introduces them to a wide range of global faiths and belief systems, including both religious and non-religious perspectives. It is my responsibility to ensure that RE pedagogy encourages students to express themselves confidently, listen respectfully to differing viewpoints, think critically about new ideas, and understand the influence of beliefs on individuals and society. Additionally, I oversee the effective delivery of GCSE Religious Studies to our KS4 students.
As the form tutor for the inclusive United Nations group, my role involves supporting EAL students and their families as they become acquainted with British culture and successfully integrate into British society.
I hold a Bachelor's in the Foundations of Sharia Law (Islamic Theology) and a PGCE in Religious Education.
Having grown up in an Iranian household, schooled in Dubai, and later moving to England, I’ve gained valuable insight into diverse cultures and world-views. This enables me to share experiences that help students build cultural capital. I often discuss Iranian law, UAE systems, and my interactions with people from various backgrounds, such as Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs, to deepen students' understanding of British life and global perspectives.
Aristotle said, "It is the mark of an educated mind to entertain a thought without accepting it." Teaching RE allows me to instil this mindset in my students, encouraging them to approach all ideas with curiosity. This, I believe, fosters healthier, smarter, and more well-rounded individuals. I aim to show them how this approach has brought me joy and wisdom in my own life.
Similarly, Gandhi wrote, “Religions are different roads converging to the same point.” I am passionate about helping students see how every belief system—atheistic, agnostic, or theistic—helps individuals become their authentic selves. Ultimately, as Gandhi said, we all seek the same things, even if our paths differ. Understanding this fosters a deep appreciation for the diverse beliefs and values that make us human.
