At The Gatwick School, our Mathematics curriculum will provide pupils with opportunities to develop fluency, reasoning and problem solving from Key Stage 3 to GCSE. Our inclusive, ambitious curriculum will foster an understanding of Mathematics, our world and beyond. The curriculum that all pupils will access is divided into the key areas of Number, Algebra, Geometry and Probability & Statistics and the links between these.
Through our curriculum sequence, pupils will develop knowledge, understanding and analytical skills over time, from core operations and pattern spotting to more complex processes that allow them to make inferences and be adaptable approaching new scenarios.
Our Mathematics curriculum will foster knowledge and skills including links to other curriculum areas in the Sciences, the Humanities, and more. For instance, solving equations, confidence with formulae, spatial reasoning and units of measure are all cross-curricular links that support their broader development.
We will teach key concepts and skills supporting financial literacy because this is essential for pupils’ careers and personal lives. We believe mathematical excellence is fundamental to both becoming a successful and confident member of society and further education or career using STEM. Our Mathematics curriculum is challenging and a great leveler for pupils of all socioeconomic backgrounds.
