“What is drama but life with the dull bits cut out” - Alfred Hitchcock
Our Drama curriculum looks to build creativity, confidence and cooperation while developing an understanding of key dramatic skills based around an understanding of renowned texts as well as establishing competency around performing, analysing, critiquing and building on previous work. From Shakespeare to Blood Brothers to devising theatre of their own, students will understand how to create theatre from a wide range of starting points and what is involved in making this effective, achieving success when performing and devising.
We will learn how to perform in character, be that similar to the performer or not, using a range of verbal and non-verbal communication, understanding over time how aspects such as motivation and status can heavily affect a scene.
This can be continued outside the classroom through many opportunities - some examples being the school show (such as The Wizard of Oz, School of Rock or Bugsy Malone), Drama Club or half-termly concerts.
We are inclusive of all students, providing access no matter previous experience, confidence and ability.
By the end of KS3, we look for pupils to be able to approach a script or stimulus and be able to independently explore this, devising theatre and performing as a variety of characters, with an understanding of both how to ensure they perform to their full potential and of a range of plays both in terms of era, genre and purpose.
