Every student can access an ambitious Geography curriculum that will stretch and challenge in order to understand the world they live in a sustainable way. The aims of the geography curriculum at The Gatwick School develops contextual knowledge of the location of globally significant places, both terrestrial and marine, including their defining physical and human characteristics and explore how these provide a geographical context for understanding the actions of processes.

The curriculum enables students to understand the processes that give rise to key physical and human geographical features of the world, how these are interdependent and how they bring about spatial variation and change over time.

Through the curriculum, students will have regular opportunities to practice in in the local area and become competent in geographical skills needed.

Collect, analyse and communicate with a range of data gathered through experiences of fieldwork that deepen their understanding of geographical processes.

They will regularly interpret a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs and Geographical Information Systems (GIS)  and communicate geographical information in a variety of ways, including through maps, numerical and quantitative skills and writing at length.

Students will evaluate sources by considering critically their origin, nature and purpose, present well argued summaries of their investigations, use accurate geographical vocabulary and begin to reach substantiated conclusions.
