At The Gatwick School, we use an engaging and forward-thinking Art and Design curriculum that aims to inspire, involve, and challenge all students.
This curriculum offers our children numerous opportunities to create, investigate, and build a solid foundation of artistic vocabulary, knowledge, and skills.
In a supportive environment where there are no 'right' or 'wrong' outcomes, students are encouraged to take risks, explore new ideas and techniques, and share their imagination and experiences, making art accessible to everyone.
To best meet the needs of children in Art and DT, we follow a structure of plan, design, make and evaluate.
Our Art & DT learning process begins with finding out what children already know, and using knowledge and skills end points during planning to consider what understanding the children are approaching the topic with.
The knowledge and skills end points from the Aurora Academies Trust will be used by teachers to plan practical, skills-based learning.
Children learn about local artists and all children get the chance to use specialist equipment in the secondary phase, from building Anderson shelters in the DT room to cooking a delicious apple crumble in food tech.
